Italy’s Naval Armaments Directorate (NAVARM) has signed an agreement with global safety equipment provider Survitec for the supply of next generation survival equipment to the Italian Navy’s Submarine Division.

Under the terms of the contract, signed in London during the DSEI 2021 trade show, Survitec will deliver SEIE MK11 submariner escape suits (pictured) and related support to Italy’s fleet of Todaro- and Sauro-class submarines.

Survitec pioneered submarine escape technology in the 1950s and introduced the world's first integrated Submarine Escape Suit and Liferaft combination – the MK10 – in 1990. Using 30% less air than previous versions, the MK11 continues the Survitec tradition of innovation.

During the DSEI show last week, Survitec also unveiled three new life preservers designed to provide greater protection to crews of rotary and fixed wing craft operating over water.

The new life preservers, part of the Survitec’s newly created AirPEX (Aircrew Protection Extreme) brand, have been developed to meet market demand for lightweight, thermal lifejackets greater buoyancy capability up to 350N.

Each design in the new range – AirPEX Protector, AirPEX Defender and AirPEX Warrior – offers different features appropriate to different mission profiles.

DSEI took place at London’s EXCEL centre between the 14th and 17th September.
