The 8285 Aircrew Lightweight Coverall was designed by Survitec to help crew working in hot and humid conditions from heat stress whilst ensuring a very high degree of flame retardant protection. The Coverall is manufactured from a special 9023/1 flame resistant, plain weave, Meta Aramid fabric. A fusible fabric interlining is attached at the collar, epaulettes, waist straps, cuff adjustment straps, side pockets, thigh pockets and lower leg pockets. The interlining is heat pressed into position during the manufacturing process. All sliding fasteners are mounted on flame resistant tapes.
The Coverall is front opening and fitted with a sliding fastener running from the crotch to neck; provision is made so that the fastener can be opened at the fly; the top fastener is self-locking and the bottom non-locking. The chemical bonding arrangement of the special fabric makes it soft and it behaves like a traditional textile fabric. It absorbs much less moisture than cellulosic fibres such as cotton and viscose, therefore it can dry much more quickly after energetic action, making the wearer feel more comfortable.
