Inflatable Freeboard Extension System

The Inflatable Freeboard Extender (IFE) is used to assist submariners to escape rapidly from a distressed submarine in high seas. It provides increased evacuee safety whilst preventing flooding of the submarine through the open escape hatches. The IFE is an easy-to-operate, cost-effective and reliable escape system to complement a range of submarine safety equipment. Developed in collaboration with JFD, the IFE is for use on TKMS Submarines

Two options are available, Internal Inflatable Freeboard Extender, designed to be fitted temporarily to the inside of a submarine escape tower in the event of surface abandonment in high seas, and the External Inflatable Freeboard Extender, developed as a permanent, reusable, escape option fitted between the rescue seat and the escape tower hatch of a submarine.
