Lithium-ion batteries are found in a growing range of equipment used, charged and stored onboard vessels. The Aqueous Vermiculite Dispersion (AVD) fire extinguisher provides first-response, early intervention for identified local and distributed battery risks, complementing the vessel's wider fire safety and emergency response procedures. The AVD agent is discharged as a fine mist that helps cool the affected battery while creating a protective barrier over the burning material. This combined action helps control the fire and reduce heat transfer to surrounding cells.
The product range includes a 9 l portable stored-pressure extinguisher and a 50 l cartridge-operated mobile unit for applications requiring greater extinguishing-agent capacity. Potential applications include battery charging and storage areas, areas containing portable or battery-powered equipment, workshops and equipment stores aboard passenger vessels, RORO/ROPAX vessels, yachts, offshore and specialist vessels. Product selection and positioning should reflect the specific battery hazard, location, vessel emergency procedures and risk assessment.
- Supports immediate deployment for early intervention where lithium-ion battery fire risks are identified
- Specialist AVD agent combines the cooling effect of water with the thermal-insulating properties of vermiculite
- Discharge time supports sustained application of the extinguishing agent
- Portable and higher-capacity mobile models suit different onboard risk profiles
- MED certified for marine applications
