At the end of August, three crew members were rescued by the US Coast Guard from Master D, a burning shrimp trawler off the coast of South Padre Island in Texas. The vessel was loaded with 23,000 gallons of fuel and 300 gallons of lube oil.
Master D transmitted a radio beacon alert about the fire, and manually deployed the 4 persons Survitec throw over liferaft. The raft successfully inflated right side up, and the crew boarded directly into it. To support their rescue, the Cutter Coho was diverted by the US Coastguard from Corpus Christi to the Valley, to find the burning Master D. They transferred the crew to the Coast Guard boat station where they were brought to shore. All three crew members are safe, and no one was injured in the fire.
