Mid-June, eight crew members of a Turkish cargo ship, Haksa, were evacuated after the freighter started sinking off of Croatia in the Adriatic Sea. A distress signal was sent around 4 AM once Haksa started taking in water and the ship’s engine room flooded.
Italian and Croatian rescue agencies alerted all vessels in the vicinity of the incident, and Survitec’s DSB Davit Launch liferaft was inflated during the coordinated rescue operation. Eight crew members were evacuated safely, and the captain and four more crew members remained on board to try to keep the ship afloat until rescue units arrived. The evacuated crew were taken to Split, Croatia, and the Haksa was towed to the nearby Brodotrogir shipyard in Trogir for repairs.
