Participation in a variety of projects within the realms of Charity, Education, Environmental and Social responsibility have been the focus of our community involvement thus far.

Sustainability is at the heart of what we do in our communities and believe that in continuing to foster our establishing links with local schools and universities this will help Survitec become an important aspect of local society and encourage a new generation of Survitec employees.

We also believe in supporting our employees in their individual endeavours for whatever charity work they are personally engaged in and supporting local charities in their fund raising activities. This we feel encourages both personal development and teamwork for all concerned and complements perfectly the company’s values and ethos. Being involved in such projects as detailed above will help us get a feel for what is really happening locally and will enhance and supplement our existing corporate social responsibility.


Helping Hurricane Victims

Abbi Reardon is a Warehouse Supervisor for Survitec in Sharon Centre, Ohio. She is also buyer and planner for the US Navy (liferafts). The recent hurricanes in Florida and Puerto Rico affected her brother and devastated her husband’s family. These tragic natural disasters hit very close to home for Abbi and she resolved to find a way to help but she was not sure what she could do.

While working on a project to reduce Survitecs’ inventory her analysis identified items that were either obsolete or that had expired. As she was writing her ‘scrap’ report it dawned on Abbi that she could help hurricane and earthquake victims. The following surplus Survitec products were donated: 215 Thermal Protective Blankets, 50 First Aid Kits, 50 Flashlights. Instead of stock being ‘scrapped’ Abbi realised that it could easily be shipped out and really help people. “I contacted the corporate office of Red Cross and they used these goods to help the victims of the California wildfires”.

Abseil down the Spinnaker

Jenny Barnett from our finance team at Survitec Gosport, along with her family have taken to spending the weekend scaling down the 170 m high Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth! Whilst doing this, they have raised over £1500 for the Alzheimer’s Society. Well done Jenny and Team!


Survitec Safety Runners

Congratulations to the Survitec runners who participated in Antwerp’s biggest running event – where over 40,000 people partake in either the 5km, 10km or marathon run. Despite extremely hot weather (over 28°C!) all of the “Survitec Safety Runners” crossed the finish line safely. What an accomplishment and amazing team spirit!


Charity Football match

Spencer Percival, Design & Quality Systems Manager and Andy Hunt, Operations Manager, along with their Survitec Colleagues, arranged a fundraising charity match for the Wirral Society of the Blind and Partially Sighted. 
On a chilly Friday afternoon our CEO Brian Stringer joined the BHD staff v BHD shop floor team for the annual charity football match. It is played for the Theresa Cotgrave Memorial Trophy in memory of a dearly departed Survitec friend and colleague.
For some obscure reason it has been very difficult to find out the finalscore especially from Brian’s team, however, the event raised over £800.


Southwest Belfast Food Bank

Southwest Belfast Food Bank, a branch of the Trussell Trust charity, who have food banks dotted throughout the UK, provide emergency assistance to their local communities in the form of food supplies and home essentials. 

Survitec Dunmurry have completed 3 events so far this year to support this worthy charity, 2 food drives and 1 “pay day lottery” event.  Response from our ever giving employees has been amazing and has resulted in a donation of over 30 boxes of food and toiletries, plus £250 cash which will assist with rent and general running costs for the charity.

Wear it pink

Tricia Lewis-Francis, Internal Sales co-ordinator just happened, by chance, to receive a flyer for She was tasked with putting together a Survitec day of fundraising for Cancer Awareness.
Tricia said: “I was a bit hesitant but Cancer has affected many lives including my own family. Knowing how much raising awareness can help people that are going through it I was
determined to contribute. 
Everyone at the Gosport office participated by dressing up and decorating the whole office in pink. There were lots of treats and laughter. The ‘wear it pink’ day was successful because of fantastic team work and generous donations from Survitec employees. “We managed to raise £250.38 this was a lovely increase and almost doubled our efforts from last year where we raised £130.16!”


HAVEN Outreach

HAVEN Outreach is a local volunteer group who set up nightly in Belfast City Centre to provide hot food and friendship to the vulnerable and homeless in our city.

Lynn Hanna Short from the Dunmurry Quality team completed an open water swim raising much needed funds, an impressive £365, which enabled us to make “Survitec Winter Survival Bags”.

It was a real team effort to make the waterproof bags. Trevor Lynas headed bag design and Maura McCullough donated her own time to stitch using scrap materials from our processes.  A team of staff (Lynn Hanna Short, Trevor Lynas, Clare Gray, Claire Murray, Emma Stewart, Shona Meehan, Suzanne Sherratt) packed the bags, which contained warm hats, gloves, socks, scarves, toiletries and chocolate treats.

On a Monday night, Lynn, Suzanne and Emma went out with the HAVEN team to pass the bags onto the homeless. It was an eye-opening experience for the team, very rewarding but also very sad to see so many people in need in our community.  The people they met were over the moon with the bags, and loved that they were so bright with reflective tape and waterproof to keep their sleeping bags and belongings dry during the winter months.

We will certainly be doing more to help this volunteer group.


Bio-diversity project

An onsite bio-diversity project whereby a team of employees planted flowers to encourage pollinators.


Muddy Race for Life

A team of 4 participated in a local event “Pretty Muddy Race for Life” in aid of Cancer Research and raised £800 for the charity.


Bug Hotel

To encourage biodiversity in our community we worked with a local primary school to build a “bug hotel” using scrap materials from the facility.



Titanic Belfast’s education programme is recognised as a leading learning resource nationally and has welcomed over 150,000 participants since opening in 2012.  The wide range of learning programmes, which cover a variety of subjects and skills, ranging from maritime communication, marine science & exploration to 5 star customer service, is supported by the Survitec Group, a leading manufacturer of marine, defence and aerospace survival technology.

As part of the NI Science Festival, whizz kids from around Northern Ireland competed today in our STEMQuest Grand Final in partnership with the Survitec Group, in a bid to become Northern Ireland’s top team!

Lumen Christi proved to be ‘Best in Class’ in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths University Challenge style competition, with Ballyclare High School being named runners-up, and were presented their award by local TV personality Barra Best.

The STEMQuest Final followed competitive regional heats which saw 32 teams of Key Stage 3 post primary students (years 8-10) from across the region compete and test their knowledge against one another.


Work Inspiration

Every year we host a Work Inspiration Day at the Dunmurry facility. Pupils from local schools are invited to come along and learn about what we do. The day involves “business games” & team working challenges, a tour of the facility and opportunities to chat with staff about their careers (with particular emphasis on STEM subjects).


Zipline Challenge

The Dunmurry HR team undertook a zipline challenge across the River Lagan in Belfast to raise funds for Autism NI, a charity which supports individuals with autism and their families, and which raises awareness of autism in the wider society.
