Safety solutions provider Survitec has been offering Marine Evacuation Systems (MES) training to passenger vessels since 2003. With a focus on increasing maritime safety, Survitec launched a new classroom style curriculum to train a vessel’s crew about the equipment onboard Survitec’s multiple MES product ranges [Marin Ark 1 and 2, Slides and Chutes]. In addition to its Vancouver, Canada training facility, Survitec opened a second in Miami, Florida, to offer coverage for owner operators in key ports of call in North America.

To date, Survitec has trained over 5,000 crew members worldwide, and aims to expand these efforts with the new curriculum. The Marin Ark - MES Crew Training day starts with theoretical classroom work, followed by several practical exercises, which include: MES operating sequence, deployment and evacuation cycle, emergency equipment familiarization, pyrotechnics and electronics, liferaft familiarization including passenger safety management, lifejacket donning, participant descent, stretcher descent, carry techniques, crisis control, and system abandonment. The training sessions run with a minimum of 20 participants and a maximum of 36 participants.

Survitec’s Chief Technical Trainer for the America’s, Robert Holmes, explains: “The hands-on, classroom style Marin Ark – MES Crew training speaks to our commitment of increasing safety at sea. Our goal is to not only equip each vessel with the best maritime safety technology, but to provide your crew with the necessary knowledge to use the life-saving equipment in the event of an emergency.”

All Survitec Marin Ark - MES crew training is conducted per SOLAS CH III Regulation 19.3.3.8 and crew members will be awarded a certificate to record their successful completion.
