Survitec selected as safety partner by Statoil UK for significant Scottish energy projects
Survitec has been selected by energy giant Statoil UK as the preferred safety partner for two significant energy infrastructure projects in Scotland.
The safety solutions provider will lease lifejackets and immersion suits to Statoil UK to kit out offshore workers on the Mariner oil field development east of Shetland and the Hywind floating windfarm off the coast of Aberdeenshire. Up to 1500 people will carry out hook-up and commissioning work at the Mariner field before production starts in the second half of 2018. Mariner is expected to produce for 30 years and will create 700 permanent jobs.
The Hywind Scotland pilot park is set be the world’s first commercial floating windfarm. All five turbines have now been installed off the Aberdeenshire coast. Hywind consists of a turbine placed on top of a ballasted steel cylinder. The floating turbine unit is attached to the seabed by three mooring lines. It is set to generate enough electricity to power around 20,000 homes.
Survitec will kit operatives at the Mariner field in 1000 Series Passenger Suits and MK50 lifejackets. The suits permit full customisation for operating requirements, ergonomic and lightweight design for optimum fit, as well as integrated air supply systems and survival items such as a light and whistle.
Workers at the Hywind site will don the 1000 Series Windfarm Suit which was designed specifically for the offshore wind energy industry and offers multiple wearer options to support marine or aviation transportation. It also affords exceptional in-water performance and survivability as well as flame-retardant material providing optimum protection against fire.
Jim Cook, Survitec Group said: “In addition to traditional methods of extracting oil, the energy industry is also looking at renewable sources and the fact that Statoil UK has selected us as its preferred safety partner for both of those projects proves we are equally adept in providing the most suitable equipment for both types of assignment. Being selected as the key safety partner for these two projects cements our position as the go-to provider for the oil and gas industry and with the continued growth of the renewable energy sector in UKCS, there is plenty of potential for further expansion.”
