Survitec dry chemical powder vessel

A highly-efficient fire extinguishing system for ships using or transporting gases or other
low-flashpoint fuels

Designed for use on Class B and Class C fires, our Dry Chemical Powder (DCP) system provides reliable, compliant fire protection for cargo decks, cargo handling operations and cargo loading operations for gas carriers. We also design DCP solutions for protecting fuel bunkering stations and fuel-switching operations on vessels fuelled by LNG or LPG, including passenger ships such as ferries and cruise liners, and for vessels using gas fuels for propulsion, such as oil and chemical tankers.

Dry Chemical Powder fire extinguishing systems: How do they work?

When flammable gases ignite on board ship, a Dry Chemical Powder (DCP) system works by disrupting the chemical reaction within the fire. The DCP agent is dispersed under pressure to smother the flames and starve the fire of oxygen. This halts the combustion process and extinguishes the flames instantly.

The DCP agent is non-toxic, which avoids harm to both people and the environment. Plus, the system can be released manually at the unit or remotely – either at the release box or via our safety management system,
SMARR-TI – to afford even greater protection for your crew.

High-performance fire protection for your ship, engineered to your requirements

Compliant solutions trusted to protect large ships carrying flammable cargos

  • Independently tested and certified, and simple to operate, our Dry Chemical Powder fire extinguishing systems provide reliable and compliant fire protection for your crew, cargo and vessel
  • Unified system components and modular scalability reduce your operational and maintenance costs and allow modifications to be made simply and cost-effectively during the shipbuilding process
  • Major system components are assembled and supplied as self-contained units ready to “plug and play”, which reduces installation time and costs
  • Compatible with foam-based fire suppression systems, especially important for ships transporting gases and chemicals according to the IGC code and IBC code
  • Servicing and testing can be performed while the vessel remains in commission and without disassembling the core components, maintaining fire safety at all times

Compact, lightweight solutions to protect LNG- and LPG-fuelled passenger ships

  • Reliable, non-toxic fire extinguishing systems that deliver high-performance protection for your passengers and crew, whilst also avoiding harm to the environment
  • Certified according to IMO MSC 86/26 Add.1 (Res. MSC.285(86) 3.3.3) and DNV class program no 474.74 and compliant with the IGF code for protecting LNG bunkering stations
  • Modular solutions that can be scaled to suit all sizes of installation, and optimised to save valuable space on board your vessel
  • Efficient: LNG/LPG bunkering stations on both port and starboard sides can often be protected using just one DCP unit, saving on installation and maintenance costs without compromising safety or performance
  • Easy to maintain: our global network affords ready access to servicing and spare and replacement parts across all global trading routes

  • High-quality fire safety solutions that afford the highest levels of protection
Our DCP fire extinguishing system is designed for use with agents based on potassium sulphate or potassium bicarbonate salts, in accordance with IMO MSC.1/Circ.1315 rev.1. These salts are proven to have the best flow capability and extinguishing effect to ensure swift containment of fire onboard your vessel. They also offer better compatibility with foam firefighting systems.
  • Bespoke solutions from the experts in fire safety
Our fire safety experts will evaluate your requirements and design the most efficient, cost-effective solution for your needs. Our commissioning engineers close to the yards can then help to facilitate the build and provide additional technical support as required.
  • Easy installation; easy maintenance
Each Dry Chemical Powder system is supplied on a skid as a single, compact unit, ready to "plug and play“ and equipped with an additional  connection to allow for servicing procedures to be performed without disabling the operating cylinder.
  • Superior, after sales support
We can provide additional training services for crew, plus options for remote support. We can help you maintain your DCP fire extinguishing system with annual service inspections, testing of the Dry Chemical Powder medium, and the ready availability of spare and replacement parts through our global supply network.
